Kenneth Tong has been tweeting vile messages to Gary Barlow, this caused mass outrage online, so much so that his name started trending on twitter, something that he went on to boast about.

What we need to remember is that what motivates people to do such a thing is the fact that it will allow them to easily reach a mass audience, increase their twitter followers and potentially allow them to generate instant revenue(Kenneth Tong sells things on his website.)  This is incredibly cheap PR for him which probably outweighs the fact that most people will now hate him.

Anger spreads content

One of the biggest predictors of whether or not a piece of content will spread online is how much emotion it makes people feel, especially anger and this is exactly why he is doing this.

The more angry people get, the more people mention his name and the further his message spreads. As much as people are tweeting how much they hate him – this is exactly what he wants.

All this tweeting has helped him appear on various news and blog websites, allowed him to trend on twitter and allowed him to raise his ‘celebrity’ profile.
